Abstract

Currently, the clean water crisis is a major issue in Indonesia. This situation is exacerbated by increasing pollution and the rampant exploitation of water resources, especially in urban areas. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of water filtration technology using manganese sand, anthracite, and ion exchange resin in improving water quality according to the quality standards set by the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 32/2017. The method involved collecting water samples from a retention pond at ITPLN campus, followed by filtration and testing of physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters before and after filtration. The results showed that the applied filtration technology successfully improved water quality across all parameters, with a significant reduction in turbidity from 53.3 NTU to 11.76 NTU, thereby meeting national standards. The conclusion of this study is that this water filtration technology is effective and has the potential to be used for clean water management in campus environments and on a larger scale for non-domestic purposes.
