Abstract

A solar power plant or PLTS is a power plant that utilizes thermal energy from sunlight, namely converting photon energy with the help of photovoltaic technology. The use of PLTS for public lighting or public street lighting (PJU) is efficient because it is easy to maintain, does not even require maintenance or zero maintenance in operation, has a long life-time that can be up to 25-30 years, and can be installed with an independent or stand-alone installation system. In this community service, it is utilizing solar energy by installing PLTS with integrated solar cells at the location of the service partner, namely the Nurul Haramain NWDI Islamic Boarding School in Bogor which is located in Saitem Village, Cigombong District, Bogor Regency, West Java which is at latitude -6.71780, and longitude 106.77849. Solar power potential in the area throughout the year stands at 4.5 kWh for the lowest solar power taking place in April, while solar power is highest in September at 6.2 kWh. The installation of PJU based on integrated solar cells helps the pesantren community in maximizing lighting in places that were previously minimal lighting / dark to become comfortable places for activities, especially the Qur'an muroja'ah. In this service activity, the service team also provided socialization and workshops to service partners about PLTS. This is useful for service partners as a provision of knowledge and skills for students.
